If you run a business then rates are an unavoidable evil that you will have to pay. At what level you have to pay is often open to interpretation and that is where we come in. Montagu Pryce can analyse your rates bill and the premises' Rateable Value and make recommendations as to whether we believe savings can be made and an appeal lodged.If we think there is a good chance of reducing your rates burden then you are 90% of the way there and all you need do is instruct us to put the process in motion and when we are successful you will be paying a lower amount for your rates than the local authority currently takes from you. As we operate on a 'No win, no fee' basis we not only ensure your case has a chance of success before we take it on but we also proatively manage the appeal from start to finish to ensure the best possible outcome.
Appealing against a valuation from the VOA and having your rates reduced accordingly is a complicated procedure that can take a lot of time and effort - the Government don't like to make it easy to lower the taxes they take from you! Fortunately, Montagu Pryce handle the procedure from start to finish and keep you informed all along the way. It's no exaggeration to say that once you give us the go ahead and the information we ask for then all you need do is sit back and wait for your rates to be reduced.

Once you instruct us we start by taking a copy of your rates bill and comparing it to our database to see what similar businesses in your area are paying. We also ask you some questions about your premises, the type of business you operate and look for reasons to have your rates reduced. Our team of specialists then use this information to deal with the VOA to seek to have the Rateable Value (RV) lowered. We will also be looking for any reliefs that you might be elligible for and ensuring that the Uniforml Business Rate (UBR) is correctly applied to your RV and that your bill is correctly calculated - certainly not always a foregone conclusion!. Where we find any discrepancies or overcharges we secure you a rebate and refund.
Your involvement, beyond providing us a few bits of information, is minimal and we will handle all of the negotiations and appeals to ensure that you pay the lowest rates we can secure.
Consortium members pay 35% of the reduction for a 5 year period. This is paid quarterly in arrears so our work is always funded by the savings we have secured - you will only ever be better off than you are now, even after paying us you retain 65% of the savings.
Non-members of the Consortium pay 50% of the reduction secured over 5 years and this is paid quarterly in advance.
